… and I've been working in book publishing for over 15 years - I was Head of Audience Development at HarperCollins where I was responsible for running large marketing campaigns across their entire book list. Before this, I was Head of Events & Marketing at The Bookseller magazine where I ran the industry awards, conferences, subscriptions and launched the FutureBook community.
I set up The Empowered Author to support a new breed of authors who are taking more control of their writing careers. It is an extremely exciting time for authors; digital marketing tools, social media and the accessibiliy of self publishing has opened up endless opportunities. There are more options and routes to being published than ever before. Social media has enabled authors to connect with readers, booksellers, librarians, agents and bloggers directly. Free tools, platforms and services abound.
More and more is expected of authors in terms of marketing and self promotion, and this is where The Empowered Author comes in - we have online training workshops on social media marketing, author newsletter strategy, book marketing planning and using Canva - these are low-cost and you can sign up for them right away.
