…And I’m Katie Sadler
… and I've been working in book publishing for over 15 years - I was Head of Audience Development at HarperCollins where I was responsible for running large marketing campaigns across their entire book list. Before this, I was Head of Events & Marketing at The Bookseller magazine where I ran the industry awards, conferences, subscriptions and launched the FutureBook community.
I set up The Empowered Author to support a new breed of authors who are taking more control of their writing careers. It is an extremely exciting time for authors; digital marketing tools, social media and the accessibiliy of self publishing has opened up endless opportunities. There are more options and routes to being published than ever before. Social media has enabled authors to connect with readers, booksellers, librarians, agents and bloggers directly. Free tools, platforms and services abound.
More and more is expected of authors in terms of marketing and self promotion, and this is where The Empowered Author comes in - we have online training workshops on social media marketing, author newsletter strategy, book marketing planning and using Canva - these are low-cost and you can sign up for them right away.
You can also book 1-2-1 sessions with both Katie and Sam, and Katie offers fantastic ongoing services to whip your book marketing into shape.

…and I started working with Sam on The Empowered Author in 2021, and run the Facebook group where we encourage and support authors of every background to make better marketing choices.
I’ve been working in publishing since 2007, going from Ebury Publishing to the HarperCollins fiction team and then to Quercus Books. Since going self-employed, I have worked with all three companies again, as well as Orion Books, Little, Brown and numerous independent publishers.
As well as working with publishers, I have also been working directly with authors since 2019, to help them create marketing plans that feel sustainable and get results. You can see some of the lovely things authors have said about working with me here.

I work with authors to help them create marketing plans that are sustainable and deliver results.
I also mentor authors over a period of 6-12 weeks to give feedback / answer questions as and when needed, and keep them accountable to the plans that we create together.
